We recently received the chance to speak with actress Katlin Mastandrea about her acting career and her project she is currently working on with Kickstarter. Make sure to check out the link to her project here http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1611466310/timothy-and-the-dragons-gate and our interview below for more information!
1. How did you get your start in acting?
I have always liked putting on shows for my family since I could walk, mainly anything involving puppets, different voices, and being host of the show. In elementary school, I did a couple of school plays and found I really liked playing characters. So we finally found a couple of basic classes in Denver and one thing led to another. Eventually, we made our way to Los Angeles.
2. What was your first project?
It was a thesis project back in Colorado for The Colorado Film School called “The Toymaker”. My brother was cast as the lead and I was the bully, street urchin.
3. Can you tell us about your Kickstarter project?
My project is called “Timothy and the Dragon’s Gate”. It’s adapted from a book of the same title by Adrienne Kress. It’s about a boy, Timothy, who doesn’t fit in with his peers, who he believes are unreliable and idiots. He also doesn’t trust adults, his father doesn’t understand him and is frustrated with why he can’t just fit in. Timothy gets expelled from the last school in the city, and winds up meeting Mr. Shen, a Chinese mail room clerk at his father’s workplace. In reality, Mr. Shen is a dragon trapped in human form. Timothy gets caught up in a race against time to save Mr. Shen and himself. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1611466310/timothy-and-the-dragons-gate
4. How did you get involved with Kickstarter?
I’ve been hearing bits about it for a while. I was asking a friend of mine what advice they might have for me with this project. Among other things, they brought up Kickstarter. So that thought had been knocked around in my head a bit until I decided to go ahead and try. There are a lot of pretty amazing projects on there.
5. Do you have any other upcoming projects?
Well, “The Middle” has been renewed for season 5, so I’m looking forward to that.
6. What are your summer plans?
Right now, mostly working on my project. So between that and hanging out with family. It’s also some great down time to work on a couple of other projects I have at different stages. Planning on much more ocean time too. It is very calming and a great place to recharge.
7. What do you like to do when you are not working?
I like to draw, so I like to practice when I can. I’m also learning Japanese, so I’m trying to write Hirigana. I love gaming, reading, and listening to music. Also, I head to the movies a lot.
8. Do you have any social networking accounts where your fans can stay connected with you?
I have my Twitter account, @KatlinMastandre (they dropped the last “a” in my last name – it was too long); my company, Where Monkeys Play, on Facebook; my page on Who Say, http://www.whosay.com/katlinmastandrea ; and Instagram is Katlinmastandrea.
