1. How did you get your start in acting?
My dad is a director/writer and my mom is a casting director. So, I always knew about the business a little, but wasn’t totally interested. When I was 7 years old my mom cast me in a local Utah film and I just fell in love with the process on set. I’ve never been in a play and didn’t know at that age that acting was even something I would be good at or love. After that first project it just kind of felt like it was meant to be.
2. What is your favorite part about the job?
I love becoming a character. I love exploring emotions and working with other creative people. Also, being a social person, I really love meeting new people. Acting allows me to meet new people and get to know them in a really deep way pretty quickly. I really love that part of acting.
3. What has been your favorite character to play and why?
Charlie on Colony has been my favorite character. I love getting to play a role for an extended period of time. I also love building real relationships with my TV family. It’s also the kind of role I love to play, serious and emotional.
4. Can you tell us about your character in your new holiday film “The Christmas Project?”
This was just pure fun! I played Matthew Buckley. He’s the 2nd of four brothers. He’s bullied at school and always in a losing competition with his older brother. Matthew is just a good, kind kid who learns about the true Christmas Spirit when he has to be a Secret Santa for his bullies.
5. What was your experience like working on this wonderful project?
I loved the comedy and working with pretty much only kids. This movie had so many fun, funny, and high energy moments. It didn’t feel like work at all. We just played the whole time!
6. Do you have a favorite scene that you filmed?
My favorite scene was when we rolled our youngest brother off the top bunk bed onto a pile of pillows.
7. How was this project different from others that you’ve worked on in the past?
It was very different than my usual roles. It was light and fun rather than serious. I didn’t have a disease, my parents were both alive, it was a happy family Christmas movie. I only had to cry once!
8. Can you tell us about your character on “Colony?”
Charlie has been separated from his family for a year. He has been abused and learned to develop a thick skin. From his trauma, he has kind of shut down emotionally but also has become pretty world-wise and strong. Like I said, it’s the kind of role I book. It’s been fun to get to play Charlie a little longer and explore his layers a little more.
9. What can fans expect from the second season?
They can expect even more twists and turns and a fast-paced storyline. They can also expect lots of reveals and surprises!
10. Do you have any fun holiday plans?
After living away from my family for five months shooting Colony, I’m actually looking forward to a low key holiday hanging with my family.
