We recently had the chance to chat with singer Mason Coutinho about getting his start in the entertainment industry, his new EP “Magnetic”, upcoming projects, and more!
1. How did you get your start in the entertainment industry?
I’ve always been singing since I was very young however the turning point in my career was probably a couple of years ago after I was selected from Australia to participate in a Disney Premiere program in Disneyland LA and I received the runners up award out of thousands of kids for my age group for overall singing, acting and performing. It was from this moment that I really started working hard and focusing on my music.
2. How would you describe your music?
My music is mostly pop music combined with a few acoustic songs.
3. What was the recording process like for your EP “Magnetic”?
The recording process in LA was actually was so much fun! Whilst it consisted of a lot of hard work and some nights we didn’t finish in the studio until 2am, I really enjoyed the experience of working with many different writers and producers from all different backgrounds.
I was lucky enough to have my family there in the recording studio each session to support me and provide creative input during the whole process. There were times when we would turn all the studio lights off and go into a process called “spaceship mode” where everyone would think and brainstorm a creative storyline, which then led to the melody creation followed by the lyrics. Every moment was a whole lot of fun and very exciting.
4. What has the fan reaction been like so far?
My fan reaction has been amazing and I am very lucky to have such an awesome fan base out there. In the past 10 months, my fan base grew to over 100K and they have all been so supportive of my new music and all of their comments and encouragement inspires me to keep writing and releasing new music every day.
5. Where can fans listen or purchase the album?
The EP is available both on spotify and iTunes!
6. Who are your musical influences?
My biggest musical influences would be artists like Shawn Mendes & Ed Sheeran.
7. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not singing?
When I’m not singing, I love playing basketball, spending time with my brothers and family, going to the beach and the movies!
8. Who is one artist you’d love to collaborate with one day?
I’d love to collaborate with Tyga one day.
9. What is a fun fact about yourself?
Fun fact about myself is that my singing & guitar is self-taught.
10. Do you have any other upcoming projects you can share with us?
My next big thing will be filming my next music video for my upcoming single “How Bout It” here in LA! Stay tuned for sneak peaks and updates!
