- What was the writing and recording process like for your most recent project “Hex”?
The process mainly involved going back to the older songs, cleaning them up, adding our new vocalist Stephanie, and also writing a few new songs. Since I do all the recording myself I found that I had grown leaps and bounds as a producer and engineer since the release of the first album “Koyaanisqatsi” so I wanted to go back and give those songs new life.
- How did you narrow down the songs to use?
We basically compiled the best songs off our first two albums based on listener response and other data. In other words, the songs that didn’t seem to get much love were left out and only the cream of crop was included. We also added two new songs to sweeten the deal. This is the definitive Dancing with Ghosts album and we plan on riding this album out for a while.
3. What is your favorite song off of the album?
Hex is a full length album. My personal favorite at the moment is our newest song “The Narcissist”. The song has a very ‘’late 90’s’’ Smashing Pumpkins vibe in the verse and then it changes to this driving, gritty part until it finally erupts in a soaring, sing-a-long chorus. I feel like with most artists, their newest work is the most exciting.
- What has the fan reaction been like so far?
The response has been super positive. The album hasn’t been out for very long so we hope more people listen and give their feedback.
- How is this project different from those you’ve previously released?
This album is the full realization of what we’ve been trying to do the past year or so. With the addition of Stephanie, who plays keys and shares lead vocals, it was very important for me to add her vocals to the older songs which also made their way onto this composition.
- How would you describe your sound?
The sound really varies from song to song. The overarching themes would be tasteful guitar riffs, weird electronic bits and lots of vocal hooks. I always say “Depeche Mode, but heavier”.
- If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I think it would be fun to collaborate with anyone who has had success in this industry. I would love to pick their brain on how successful songwriting works and what kind of tips they could share.
- Do you have a full length EP in the works?
Hex is a full length album.
- Are you hosting any events or any concerts to promote the project?
We will be touring this summer in support of the album. We also have a music video premiere April 16th for the single “Eyes Wide Open V.2”
