Interview With Cameron Judd!

  1. When did you realize you wanted to become an actor?

I first realized I wanted to be an actor when I first started doing theatre after the 1stgrade! I was 7 years old, when my Mom signed me up for a program at our local theater; The Marquis. I found I loved it so much that it was all I wanted to do!  I could spend 10 hours a day in the theatre rehearsing for a play, and I loved every second of it.  My Mom called it my happy place – and she was right!! I started auditioning for anything I could find and did several plays at the Marquis.   Eventually I auditioned for an event in Florida, where I first met with agents and managers. I was invited to LA, and on my first visit out, I was in the room auditioning!   It was incredible and from that moment on I was hooked.  I love to act.  It is what makes me unique and brings me joy.

  1. What was the first big project you worked on?

My first big project that I worked on was an independent feature film called “OK” It was my starting point for my love of film, as before this I had only been involved with theatre.  I got to be part of the entire process, and worked with a great team. I played the lead role of a young boy that had a hearing problem and had been bullied his entire life.  His life was full of loss as his mother also died of cancer and his father moved them to a new town to start over.  I was able to show fear and vulnerability as well as hope for the future and belief in myself.   I knew the Director so it was a comfortable and truly fun experience.  The film was submitted to many festivals and I was honored to win a Best Young Actor award from two festivals … including the LA Film Awards in October of 2017.

  1. What has been your favorite project you’ve worked on?

I have truly had the pleasure of loving everything that I have worked on for many different reasons!  For “OK” I was so new to the industry that I had no preconceived notions of how things should be done, so this role was freeing and open for me.  I really enjoyed it. The following summer though, I had the opportunity to play a lead role in another independent feature called “A Summer to Remember”  I LOVED filming this because I got to spend a full week at a YMCA camp in Ohio with a really great group of young actors that became more like family than friends.  We portrayed best friends coming of age in the 80’s and had camp experiences and a lot of laughs!  This film is still in post production, but we are hoping for a June release date.

  1. Do you have any advice for young people who want to pursue acting?

Yes, I do. My advice for all young people who are trying to follow this dream is to never give up. No matter how long it takes you. It might take you years to get even 1 role. Have fun doing it and enjoy all the little moments along the way – there are always stories to be told or memories to be made.   If acting is really what you love doing, then you should never give up trying. Follow your dreams.

  1. What is your dream role?

If I had to choose, probably a role in either a Steven Spielberg movie, or a super hero movie, like marvel or DC.  My very first in-person audition in LA with casting was for a Steven Spielberg movie – and I didn’t really understand how big that was at the time.  I also really love super hero movies and shows.  I’m currently playing Damain Wayne/Robin in a web series.  I’ve gotten to do some really cool stuff as Batman’s son and to be able to portray a character like that on the big screen would be amazing!

  1. Are you working on any projects at the moment?

I just wrapped working on Season 2 of the Red Hood Fan Series, and I have a few projects that are set to be released in the next few months.  I had the pleasure of booking a lead role in a short film that filmed last November and it is doing the festival circuit.  The Midwest Premiere is occurring in Chicago in June at the Chicago Underground Film Festival. I will be on hand for the premiere and the Q&A panel to discuss the film after.  That is really exciting.  I have a feature and another web series set to be released this summer, and they are all in different genres, so I got to play many different types of characters! I was also on an Episode of Sugar and Toys when I was in LA last.  This is a new TV series that airs on the Fuse network in June and I can’t wait to see how that turns out!
