Robin Dimension Talks “In The Heights” In Exclusive Interview! (@PaulissenR)

1. Who/what made you want to begin dancing?

I was forced to dance at five years old by my parents of the entertainment world in Los Angeles.  My first teacher was Lee Prival, he was handsome and his father owed the studio in Sherman Oaks, California. His claim to fame was being in West Side Story on screen as one of the Sharks.

2. What styles do you focus on? Which are your favorite?

Honestly my styles vary but I keep in shape by teaching Pilates in the water as well as floor and Reformer. I was trained in ballet first. Receiving scholarships for ballet I trained at Stanly Holden in Los Angeles. I later danced with Westside Ballet Studio and onto San Antonio Ballet Company. Cicely Tyson offered me a scholarship to Dance Theater of Harlem after seeing me perform in a living room. Then I moved to NYC and joined Alvin Ailey and the 2nd Company which expanded my repertoire to Jazz, Afro Cuban, Horton and Martha Graham technique. Now hip hop is the favor. But modern dance always comes through. Of course Salsa is (On Two) socially more fun.

3. Which styles are you hoping to pursue more in the future?

Well I’m feeling fortunate to be still dancing professionally and hope my movement in dance will continue to aid my acting endeavors. Movement in dance is so amazing right now. The talent that I’m working with happen to be the top of the dance world in Salsa, Trans, Jazz, Broadway, Crunk and Hip hop.

4. What can you tell us about your role in “In The Heights”?

I can’t say much cause Lin Manuel has asked us to keep it a secret. But I will be featured in the No Me Diga song which takes place in the neighborhood of In The Heights Beauty Salon. That’s all I’m allowed to say now. And it’s very funny and I’m very funny.

5. What has that process been like?

The process for this film has been fun and exciting. So much talent is in this film. Especially the newbies.

6. What are you most excited for fans to see?

I’m most excited for fans to see the film. Can’t say why! Under a gag order but trust me they will love it for so many reasons.

7. Do you have any other upcoming projects you’d like to share with us?

I’ve been holding off auditioning this summer because of the film but I do have a print ad for the allergy medicine Dupixent currently running. There’s a few projects in Late August (Menopause the musical) and I will keep you posted.
