Interview With Marissa Heart From “HAIRSPRAY LIVE” (@MarissaHeart)

- How did you land your role in “Hairspray Live”?
My agent had emailed me saying that I was invited to the Hairspray Live “invited call” auditions and I remember exactly how excited I was! Being a part of Hairspray has been a dream of mine since I was younger, so there was no way I was missing that audition. I went to the first auditions and received a callback so they handed me a packet that had sides and sheet music that I needed to have prepared for callbacks the following day. At callbacks, they were making cut after cut and when there were only about ten of us left. That’s when they had us go in one by one to be put on tape singing and reading our sides. Two days later I received the email saying that I was pinned for the role! I remember crying because I was so happy! A few days later, my agents called me and told me that I had booked it! I screamed so loud I couldn’t contain myself!
- Can you tell us about your character?
My character is Tammy and she’s the flirtiest of all of the Nicest Kids! She was so much fun to play! She’s also one of the girls who is closest to Amber so I got to be bratty towards Tracy which is the total opposite of how I am in real life!
- How are you similar to your character?
I’m not very similar to Tammy when she was being mean which is why she was so much fun to play! When we would be doing our dance numbers and would be overly happy and cheesy, that’s how I am most of the time so I related to that.
- What has the experience of working on such a spectacular project been like for you so far?
This is truly the most incredible experience of my life!! I have never been a part of anything like this. The Hairspray Live family and experience is truly something that I will carry with me forever.
- How is this project different from others you’ve worked on in the past?
No other project that I have worked on has ever had the bond that we’ve created! We are genuinely a big family that has so much unconditional love for one another.
- Do you have a favorite scene?
My favorite scene would have to be when we perform “Nicest Kids In Town”! I love that all of us Nicest Kids had the opportunity to introduce ourselves on national television!
- Can you tell us about your role on “Breaking Through”?
I played Tara in “Breaking Through” and I absolutely loved playing her! She was very similar to how I am in real life, so she was really fun to play. She was just a nice, sweet girl who wanted to have fun, be accepted and be a part of the crew!
- Do you have any upcoming projects?
I’ve been having some meetings with different networks with my agency regarding a new show! It’s so exciting!! I’m also working on creating and recording new music!
- Where can fans stay connected with you on social media?
