Interview With “Off Guard” (@OffGuardNY)
- How did you form as a band?
Doug (guitar), Tyler (bass/vocals) and Matt Becker (guitar/vocals) all met in high school. Matt Weiss (vocals) met Nick Kolokathis (drums) through the Long Island/New York City music scene. Matt Weiss also met Matt Becker and Tyler in college, where they started to write and jam together in several different projects. We all played together as a live band for Matt Weiss’ solo project for a couple of years, and then we were like “Let’s all write something together!”
- How did you come up with the name?
We were all playing badminton at Tyler’s house for his 21st birthday. Someone made a really good shot and Tyler was like “Whoa! That caught me off guard.” After that, Doug said “That should be the band name!” and we just stuck with it.
- Can you tell us about your upcoming single “”Strawberry Moon”?
Strawberry Moon is unlike anything we have ever released or wrote. It’s about coming to terms with the fact that you need a end a specific relationship to better yourself and move on with life. It’s such a hard thing to do, and if people feel the same way, we hope they find this song and know that they’re not alone.
- How is this song different than others that you’ve created in the past?
This song incorporates jazz, pop and rock chords which we’ve never done as a band. Our first single called ‘Maybe’, which was released in the beginning of this summer was much more pop punk than Strawberry Moon. We could go on forever about it, but you’ll just have to listen for yourself!
- When is the song being released and where can fans listen to it?
The song was released on September 29th. You can listen to it on Itunes, Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube!
- Do you have any other upcoming projects?
Our debut album called ‘Set The Scene’ comes out on October 27th!
