We recently had the chance to chat with the lovely Ciara Wilson who is known for her roles on “Henry Danger” and “Bizaardvark.” Wilson talked about getting her start in the entertainment industry, her favorite project to work on, upcoming projects, and more.

1. How did you get your start in the entertainment industry?

I originally started as a competition dancer in Portland, Oregon and did some local commercials and radio voiceovers.   When I was eleven, I took an acting camp in LA and got an agent from it. That was when I realized this was something I wanted to take seriously and make a career out of! Ever since then, I transitioned into the entertainment industry in Los Angeles and have enjoyed every minute of it.

2. What was your first project?

My first projects which got me into the entertainment industry in Portland, Oregon were Fred Meyer radio voiceovers, short films, and a Crayola Crayon commercial. However, my first larger project in Los Angeles was a role on Nickelodeon’s Henry Danger! It was an incredible experience that made me realize this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

3. What has been your favorite project to work on so far and why?

My favorite project to work on so far was my role as Vicki “Hot Head” Fuego on Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark! My character was a tough MMA fighter who has a feud with the two main characters in the show (which ends in an epic scene in a wrestling ring). It was so much fun embodying this character and spending time with the cast of Bizaardvark. It was one of the best on-set experiences I’ve ever had and the end result of the episode came out hilarious!

4. What is a typical day like on-set?

The night before filming, you always get a call sheet with your call time and the shooting plan for the day. The next day, you arrive at your call time (hopefully not too early)  and head to your trailer. Next, you get hair, makeup, and wardrobe ready. Then you head to the set to film! I usually grab a snack from craft services to get a jolt of energy. The rest of the day is usually spent filming various scenes. Everyone always looks forward to lunch and dinner at crafty- the food is so good!! A common misconception of shooting movies/TV is that it’s very intense and serious. However, every day I’ve had on set is an incredible amount of fun. The cast, crew, and directors always joke around and make the day go by so fast. Being on set is a blast, no matter what project.

5. What advice do you have for other aspiring actors?

My advice for other aspiring actors is to be bold and take risks. Whether it be making a choice in a scene to read the lines in a unique way or making the big decision to fully move to LA, you can never go anywhere by staying in your comfort zone. I think everyone was born to stand out in their own ways and people will appreciate your originality. Never be afraid to channel your creativity and do something different.

6. Do you have any upcoming projects?

I was just on set last week filming a TV project that will be announced very soon! But for now, you can catch me as a part of the new dance collective “Girl Cool”. We have been putting out concept videos and just did our first live performance at the Skecher Pier to Pier Walk in Manhattan Beach. Follow our upcoming adventures on Instagram @GirlCool.

7. Do you have any holiday traditions?

Every year I spend the holidays with my grandparents and little cousins, participating in various festive activities. We build and decorate gingerbread houses, reenact Christmas plays, make homemade treats, enjoy holiday dinners and watch old family videos. Every year, we get each other matching Christmas  onesies! Spending time with family is very high up on our list of values, so I always look forward to the holiday season.
