Interview With Taylor Hambly! (@TaylorHambly)
We recently had the chance to chat with the upcoming singer Taylor Hambly about her music career! In the interview, Hambly dishes about getting her start in the entertainment industry, her single “Always Come Back”, holiday traditions, and more!
- How did you get your start in the music industry?
I have been involved with music my entire life. I started with competitions and then graduated to events. A few years ago I was invited to participate in an international convention called iPOP. When I was there, I made contacts that provided me with the opportunity to record an EP, shoot a music video, and more recently record my new single Always Come Back.
- Who are your favorite artists?
My favorite artists include: Marianas Trench, I love everything about their music; their sound, their writing and the album structure. I’ve gone to 3 of their concerts and can’t wait to go to another.
Then there’s my idol, Demi Lovato, I initially fell in love with her when I was 8 years old with the debut of Camp Rock. I admire how open she is with her life and let’s not forget how amazing her vocals are.
Others include JoJo, Michael Jackson and Ed Sheeran
- How would you describe your sound?
Definitely Pop, sometimes more on the edgy side but other times more soulful. Always Come Back, in particular, could be described as a pop dance track mixed with a tiny bit of soul.
- What was the inspiration behind “Always Come Back”?
Earlier this year my grandfather was diagnosed with terminal cancer and it was a shock to our whole family. My mom and I flew out to visit with my grandparents in April. During the car ride to their house my mom and I talked about how we will always continue to go back there. I just wanted to let my grandparents know how much I love them.
- What was the recording process like?
The recording process was great. I wrote the chorus and the melody for the song and sent it to my co-writer John, who then created the music based off of that. I then wrote the verses and we finished and recorded the song in July. Overall I had a lot of fun and I hope to work with John again in the future.
- How is this song different from your other music?
My other tracks were written for me and as much as I love those songs, I love this song in a different way because it is my message. This song is very close to my heart and that allows me to connect with it that much more.
- Do you have any other upcoming projects?
Currently I am working with two local musicians on a track inspired by a friend of theirs who suffers from mental illness. I’m super excited to lend my voice to this song in hopes of raising more awareness on this serious issue.
- Do you have any holiday traditions?
My brother and I help my dad set up the tree and we are ‘not allowed’ to decorate it until my mom finishes putting her icicles on it. Every Christmas Eve we host a party for family and friends. Then, on Christmas morning we go to my older brothers home and watch my nephews open their gifts and my brother makes a great breakfast for us to enjoy. That night, for dinner, we go to my cousins home every year.
