Interview With Aeves! (@AevesMusic)
We recently had the chance to chet with Aeves about forming as a band, their upcoming EP, the recording process, and more!
- How did you form as a band?
Molly: Matt and I met in middle school, and became friends. We were in different bands growing up, and then finally a few years ago, we decided to work together when everything else went defunct. We’ve now decided to add our friends John and Bryce into the mix for new sounds, which I’m stoked about.
- How did you come up with the name of the group?
Molly: We wanted something that meant something personal to us, so we came up with Aeves, which is an alternate/creative spelling of “Aves” meaning “those who fly” in the latin language. Matt and I both took latin when we were in high school, so that’s another way it is tied to us personally.
- What is each member’s role?
Molly: I am the main songwriter and vocalist, sometimes I’ll play guitar live. Matt does vocals and keys, and some songwriting. John is our bass player, and Bryce plays guitar. We’re still on the lookout for a drummer.
- What can you tell us about your upcoming EP?
Molly: I’ll do this Oprah style and tell you “what I know for sure”
– There’s a curveball on there
– I’m really excited for everyone to hear it
– We managed to mix a lot of elements from different genres, and I’m very proud of the end product.
- What was the recording process like?
Molly: Very fun. Our brains had a good work out, but it was very fun, and came naturally. We worked with Marc (Walloch, AWOLNATION, Company of Thieves), and he completely got what we were going for. He’s very fun to work with, and very easy to work with. If fate allows, we’d love to work with him again soon.
Matt: Probably the most fun I’ve had in my life. We went out to LA and it was all very inspiring, I feel like it’ll show in the music. Marc got what our influences are and what we were going for, the songs all came together very naturally.
- How has this been different from other projects that you’ve previously worked on?
Molly: It’s come a lot more naturally, I would say? We haven’t had to do as much revising as I seem to do with other projects. Not to say I wouldn’t have changed some things here and there in some songs, but I think that’s normal for every artist.
- What is your favorite song off of the EP?
Molly: Mine is Loaded Love. It’s my baby of the three. Means a lot to me, and it came out the way I wanted, and I am proud of it. Makes me feel very free and liberated. Also writing that song, I let out a lot of things I didn’t want to admit to myself, so it was a good therapy session too.
Matt: Mine is Haunted, writing the lyrics for that helped me through some decisions in my life. The music also gets our influences by bringing a hip-hop influence to it. I’m very proud of that one.
- What do you think fans are going to be surprised by?
Molly: I would say the track, “Haunted”. I dig it very much. It’s a different direction from the other ones. But I think it’s a bop nonetheless.
- Are you going to be doing any touring to promote the album?
Molly: We’ve been in talks of booking things here and there, we just haven’t announced anything yet 😉
- Do you have any other upcoming projects?
Molly: With AE, we’re already writing for our next release. I do some solo stuff, and I also play bass in a punk/hardcore band called time2shine. I also like to write with friends here and there just to see what we can come up with. My friends Anthony and Dave are really cool, and I’ve been jamming with them recently, too.
