We recently had the chance to chat with the talented Teresa Marie. During the interview, Teresa talked about her musical influences, writing music, “Breathe”, and more!

  1. How did you get your start in the music industry?

I got my start in the music industry when one of my Dad’s old friends approached us to let us know about some great recording studios in Lowell, which happens to be close enough for us to head there almost every week!

  1. Who are your musical influences?

My musical influences include the following; Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Missy Elliot, and Lauryn Hill. I even find myself being influenced by Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, and Billie Elish.

  1. How long does it usually take you to write your music? Do you write or co-write?

It all depends on how the song makes me feel and whether or not the words really connect. It typically takes me one day or less to write a single song. I mostly co-write but, there are certain situations that the person I usually co-write with may not understand which leaves me to finish it up on my own.

  1. What is a typical day like in the studio?

A typical day in the studio contains, great people, great laughs, great vibes and GREAT FOOD. I find myself expressing emotions and explaining what every song means too me than singing the song we initially went in to record, which is an important thing for me, learning and understanding a piece is much more beneficial than just jumping in and singing whatever can come out because if you aren’t feeling the song, nobody else will.

  1. What inspired your song “Breathe”?

What inspired my song breathe is, in-fact, about my very first relationship, you could only imagine there was lots of drama, 2 young kids saying “I love you” and certainly not meaning it, and a substantial amount of heartbreak as well as lies. Being the kids we were, we couldn’t seem to free ourselves from this so obvious toxic situation, my Dad has always had to hold my head up for me because I never seemed to make the right decisions on my own. Growing up, my Dad has always been my entire world and more, there is not a single person I could put above him, meaning WHAT HE SAYS GOES! So, adequately I followed his orders when he said enough is enough, I had to free myself from the hell I was trapped in. This is when I tried to pry my self away from what I put myself in, but the boy I was with at the time did not agree. Which is how we came up with “JUST LET ME BREATHE!!”

  1. What makes it different from the other music you have released?

The difference between this song and every other songs I have released is that this song throws a few jabs at someone who has wronged me when in every other song, I was too afraid to say what was on my mind!

  1. What do you think the fans will take away from this song?

To stand up to that boy or girl that won’t give you space and some time to breathe!

  1. What is a fun fact or something that your fans wouldn’t know about you?

I can moon-walk and, although very odd, I can eat a cupcake whole.

  1. What do you enjoy doing when you are not singing?

When I am not around singing my little heart out, I’m writing random stories and working on math problems. I love working with numbers!

  1. Do you have any goals for 2018?

My goals for music in 2018 is to break out of the shell I somehow made for myself and express every little emotion I need to express. My goals not regarding music include, keeping my grades up and making sure I get to graduate high school on time! As well as keeping my close friends right as they are, close!

  1. Do you have any other projects you can tell us about?

I have a couple more singles and an EP coming out soon! Hopefully an album down the line!

  1. What are your social media accounts?

My official accounts for Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter are all: @realteresamarie
