Interview With AwesomenessTV Star Tori Kay! (@ToriKayUnedited)

We recently had the chance to chat with the lovely Tori Kay about getting her start in the music industry, working for AwesomenessTV, Pynk Le’Monade, and more!
- How did you get your start in music?
My journey into music started when I was a competitive dancer. At my dance studio there was a musical theatre program. I loved the stage and took every opportunity to be on it, so I did all the theatre shows that my studio put on. That journey led me to a Broadway audition in NY where I met a music/artist developer named Joey Harris. Joey has been one of my biggest mentors and helped me write 7 original songs and developed my brand. The song I am most proud of is “Girl Power”.
- Who are your musical inspirations?
My musical inspirations are Jessie J and Britney Spears. I admire Jessie J for the depth and soul in her voice and Brittany Spears because she successfully transitioned from a Disney star into one of the biggest Pop Artists we know today.
- How did you land your roles on “OMG” and “Cheerleaders”?
While auditioning for different roles, I developed a relationship with the casting director who worked with the producers of Awesomeness TV. When the role of Cheerleaders came I had developed the relationships and done the work to put me at the right place at the right time.
- What is it like getting to be a part of the Awesomeness TV family?
Being apart of the Awesomeness TV family is like being part of a family full of comedians. Pranks, skits, and laughing till your stomach hurts on the daily.
- What are the shows about?
The shows are about everyday life as a teenager, just taking those awkward moments and turning them into the most hilarious events ever.
- What has been your favorite episodes to film?
My favorite episode would be one of the first that we filmed. It is an episode where we are cheering on the science fair participants and it goes all wrong. In the episode, a volcano experiment erupts at the wrong time, which we all fear in real teenage world. This sends my co-star, Lofton Shaw into hilariously dramatic tears, again every teenage boy’s nightmare, to cry uncontrollably in front of the school cheerleaders.
- Why do you think the shows do so well?
I think the shows do so well because it is relatable to our audience of teenagers and kids and we make our biggest fears funny.
- What is a behind-the-scenes secret you can share with us?
A behind-the-scenes secret I can share is that the cheers Ciara Wilson and I do together on the show are not scripted, they are truly made up on the spot, on set, by just she and I.
- Does Pynk Le’Monade have any upcoming music or projects?
Yes, we are currently working on our debut single, which will be released very soon, so stay tuned!
