Interview With Band Hold Fast Hope! (@HoldFastHopeNY)

We recently had the chance to chat with the band Hold Fast Hope. During the interview, they talked about forming as a band, their new EP “Traitors”, upcoming projects, and more!
- How did you form as a band?
We first started with two members, DJ and myself (Dan L) who were previously in a band together called Rebels Fighting Robots that disbanded at the end of 2015. From there I called up my friend Dan S who played drums in some of the projects I had been in in the past and brought him in. We ended up writing our first single “Fortune Favors” the first time the three of us rehearsed. After searching for a while, we were able to find our bassist Nick through a Facebook search thankfully!
- How did you come up with the band name?
We’ve always been a fan of nautical imagery as a group and decided on using the phrase “hold fast”, then settled on including “hope” because we felt it conveyed an image that even in the darkest storm you can hold out for hope. Then we remembered it was also the name of a Thrice song, so we were like “oh, yeah, awesome”.
- What inspired your EP “Traitors”?
Each of the songs have their own place in the story but the underlying theme behind Traitors is how we deal with the relationships in our life and the way we can watch some of the strongest feelings and emotions in our life just fade away because we’ve spent so long with the wrong people.
- How will this EP be different from other projects that you’ve worked on?
Well I can’t speak for everyone on the matter but I think that for me it was really different in terms of the layers of depth that we were able to incorporate into the record both sonicly and emotionally. It really has a feeling and constant motion in it that i’ve never really felt listening back to any of the other projects that I’ve been a part of.
- What is your favorite song off of the EP?
I think the group favorite is for sure our single “Fade”, but Traitors PT. II is a strong runner up.
- Do you collaborate with any other artists on the project?
For this EP we didn’t have any other artists collaborate on it directly. That would be definitely something fun for the future though.
- When can fans listen to the EP?
The EP is officially live now digitally!
- Will you be going on a tour to promote the EP?
We’ve been putting some further investments into getting ourselves road ready. We will be doing a 3 day weekend run May 18-20, but we are planning a longer run in late Summer to help promote the record more!
- What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
We don’t have too much free time outside of work & practices but we’ve recently started going to more shows together as a band to see some of our favorite artists & local friends. Dan S & I like to cook sometimes together. We make a mean eggs benedict. Otherwise just spending time with the people we care about most.
- Where can fans listen to or buy the EP?
Traitors is officially available on all major digital music outlets including iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Youtube, Bandcamp, & pretty much everywhere you can think to stream or download music! You can also order a physical copy off our label’s website at www.downportrecords.com/shop
- What are your social media accounts?
We’re on Facebook & Instagram mostly but we just made a new Twitter so go check that out!
