We recently had the chance to chat with “Grace Beside Me” star Amelia Aryis about landing her role on “Grace Beside Me”, working on “Living Space”, upcoming projects, and more!

  1. How did you land your role on “Grace Beside Me?”

I went to an open casting call in Brisbane for the show. I didn’t hear anything and then a few months later I got a callback audition request. I went in and auditioned for the role of Enid in front of the Director. The character I played opposite – her and I connected straight away which was perfect. I think that’s probably why we were both cast.

  1. How would you describe your character?

Enid is from a wealthy family who own land. She is kind hearted and just a normal everyday girl. She makes friends with the daughter of a servant and it displeases her father. Her family is pretty strict so she was sent away to boarding school.

  1. How is your role in the show different from your role in Living Space?

Living Space was very different. I played a dead child and I spent most of the movie appearing and terrifying the young couple. My character gave a lot of jump scares where as in Grace Beside Me, I played a sweet character in a children’s show.

  1. What is the biggest difference among the atmospheres of both sets?

Living Space was predominantly an adult cast. It was filmed in a dark, creepy house (haunted apparently) near Melbourne, and my scenes were at night. My character had to undergo over an hour and a half per day of Special Effects makeup. There were lots of frightening actors walking around. Grace Beside Me was filmed during the day in the country. It was a bright and happy set with lots of children.

  1. Which project did you like working on more?

It’s really hard to choose. I loved working on Living Space because of the amazing cast. They taught me so much. But I loved Grace Beside Me too because the character was more like me. Both experiences were so amazing and I’m so thankful to have had both.

  1. What has been your favorite episode to film of “Grace Beside Me?”

The episode “Sorry” was an amazing episode. It really delves in to Australia’s History and the treatment of the Aborigines (Australia’s Rightful Landowners). Aboriginal Children were removed from their homes and given to white families. It’s called the Stolen Generation. The Sorry episode really looked at how this has affected generations of indigenous people. It was a sad episode, but it ended with forgiveness. I’m so proud to have been a part of that episode. It went on to be a finalist in a few International Film Festivals.

  1. Do you have any other upcoming projects you’d like to share with us?

I have written a cool Webseries called “The Misadventures of Sarah and Kin.” I play the role of Sarah who is a teen dealing with the pressures of school and having a crazy family. Each episode deals with a different family member. It’s a comedy, but contains some important messages too. I can’t wait for people to see it.

  1. What do you enjoy doing during your free time?

I love to sing and play the piano. I also live on a big block of land so I have plenty of space for outdoor activities. I like tennis, badminton, basketball and running. I also love Archery and Martial Arts.
