How old were you when you started in the music industry?
Before I started kindergarten, I took cello and violin lessons and had a band in Grades 6,7, and 8 with my friends. In high school, I auditioned for a school of the arts in Ottawa. From there, I was a part of “Ottawa Idol” and that’s when I started to get more serious about music. After that I had my first single recorded in Nashville and I moved to Nashville this past January.
What was the first original song you released?
The first song I wrote and released was called “Letting It Go Tonight.” It was recorded in Nashville by Beard Studios.
How do you think your sound has progressed since then?
I think my writing in general is deeper now. Usually my songs have a message that try to tackle or bring awareness to social issues. Sometimes they just tell a story that I hope people can relate to and connect with.
What was the creative process like for “Driving in the Dark”?
“Driving in the Dark” was a fun song to write. The hook and some of the chorus came from my first drive to Nashville from Canada. It’s about a 17 hour drive and my twin brother Thomas was telling me how he loved to drive at night and into the sunrise. That’s where I got the hook from and the song came out of that.
How did you come up with a theme for the music video?
We decided to focus on the fun parts of the song and tell a story that focused on positive energy and the feeling of being in love. Together my videographer Jesus Fuentes and I planned some fun shoots all around my home in the Smiths Falls area and we tried to show the excitement you feel when starting a new relationship.
What has the fan reaction been like to both the single and the music video?
The fan reaction has been amazing and people really seem to be enjoying the song and the music video. I really wanted people to be able to blast this in their car and sing every word. I’ve gotten a lot of messages and videos of people doing that, so it really means a lot. The single was just released to Canadian radio and it’s already being played on a few stations, so I’m very happy with the reaction.
Do you have an EP or a full-length album in the works?
I’m working on an EP and plan on releasing it in 2020. Since I’ve been living in Nashville and performing on SongBird Tours, I feel really grateful for all the new friends I’ve made and for all the amazing writers I’ve been fortunate enough to write with and learn from. All of this inspiration will go into the EP!
