We recently had the opportunity to chat with Alex Barima from FOX’s “The Exorcist.” Barima dished about getting started in the industry, acting inspirations, landing his role on “The Exorcist”, and more!

  1. How did you get your start in the entertainment industry?

I moved to Vancouver in the summer of 2011, and signed with my agent, Carrie Wheeler, out of acting school in March of 2012. That’s when I first started auditioning for film and TV.

  1. What was your first project?

My first project was a Verizon Wireless commercial, back in 2012.

  1. Who are your inspirations?

I surround myself with very creative and motivated people. Seeing my friends work hard to achieve their dreams is extremely inspiring to me. I am also very close with my family; living away from them is not always easy, but we keep each other strong.

  1. How did you land your role on “The Exorcist”?

It was a rather standard audition process. I went in for a first session, and got called back a few days later to read for one of our producers. About a week later, I was told I had officially landed the job. It was a memorable phone call.

  1. What character do you play?

I play Shelby, a born again Christian who is the first to notice strange things happening around his family.

  1. How is this project different from others that you’ve worked on previously?

This is easily the largest role I’ve had to play in my career so far. The workload and the responsibilities are larger than what I’m used to, but I loved every second of it. I usually don’t have an opportunity to get this close with my co-workers, so getting to know them over the past four months has been amazing.

  1. What is a typical day like on-set?

Our set was a fun and welcoming place; It was extremely busy, but everyone remained efficient and professional. No two days were the same, so it’s hard to define what a “typical” day might be. I just tried to stay out of everyone’s way most days. I spent most of my time hanging out with other cast members when we’re not shooting.

  1. What has been your favorite episode to film?

Episode 9 was probably our most intense episode, for everyone. I can’t give anything away, but I’m looking forward to seeing it.

  1. When and where can fans watch the show?

New episodes air Fridays at 9/8c on FOX, but fans in the USA can catch up on previous episodes by visiting www.fox.com.

  1. Do you have any other upcoming projects?

Not at the moment, but I can’t wait to see what comes next!

  1. Thanksgiving is approaching, what are you thankful for?

I’m thankful to have something to show for the work I’ve been doing. This isn’t an easy industry to be in, so I count my blessings when things work out.

  1. Do you have any holiday traditions?

Living away from home, it’s hard to maintain Holiday traditions, but a friend of mine hosts a Thanksgiving party every year, which is always fun!
