We recently had the chance to chat with Cerina Vincent from Disney Channel’s “Stuck in the Middle.” Vincent talked to us about getting her start in the entertainment industry, working on “Stuck in the Middle”, the upcoming “Stuck in the Middle” Christmas special, upcoming projects, and more!
1. How did you get your start in the entertainment industry?
I moved to LA after high school and started college at Marymount. Within the first two weeks I had an agent and was auditioning. An agent came to talk to our theatre class and I was bold and kind and hard working and I went right up to him and asked if I could audition for him. I grew up doing musicals and plays, so I had a background in acting already, but that was the real beginning! I had no money, didn’t know anyone in Hollywood and I went on one audition at a time. Here I am!
- How did you land your role on “Stuck in the Middle?”
It was like any other audition but I had a feeling about it. I knew it was mine. I felt connected to the writing from day one. I went back and forth to Disney quiet a few times. It was a stressful process, but it all worked out in the end. I am so grateful.
- What is a typical day like on-set?
Long! And fun! When you’re a parent on a kid’s show, we are usually the first actors there and the last actors to leave. Joe Neives (Tom) and I shoot all of our close ups at the end of the day when the kids go home. But it’s the best! We love every minute of it.
- What’s it like being surrounded by so many children?
It’s the best! I love my SITM kids. Honestly, they are all such great actors and their little faces and spirits make me so happy. I’ve worked with a lot of adult actors who don’t have the kindness or professionalism that they have.
- How are you similar and different from your character?
The similarities are that I love kids. I’m nurturing! My friends and family would say that I have a lot of Suzy’s quirky character traits! And I’m crazy protective about my family! The differences would be that I don’t have any kids of my own in real life. Not yet anyway… J
- What can you tell us about season 3?
Our writers are amazing!! They have created so many fun episodes with so many fun characters! I think the viewers are going to love it! We are starting off the season with a bang with a wild, full of love and full of fun Christmas movie that airs on 12/8!!!
- How will it be different from previous seasons?
I can’t tell you that! J You have to watch!
- Why do you think the show is doing so well?
I think families love big family shows! When I was little my favorite shows were The Brady Bunch, Family Ties and Just the 10 of Us. Siblings have a special bond so if you have siblings you can relate to the chaos, conflict and love. If you don’t, you are drawn to it!
- Have you had a favorite episode to film?
I can’t pick just one. I do love the conflict between Suzy and the neighbor, Bethany played by comedic genius Lauren Prichard! Those story lines are always a blast!
- Do you have any other upcoming projects?
I’m writing another book that I am SO excited about. I have an indie movie that just came out called Broken Memories about Alzheimer’s. I have just a small role, but it’s a special film. Rance Howard is the lead, Ron Howard’s father and he is just extraordinary. I had an uncle pass away of this disease and my Aunt took care of him This special film touches on all of that. And I have a fun Lifetime movie coming out soon called The Killer Work Wife. But right now, I’m soaking up all the goodness on set of season 3 of Stuck in the Middle!
