Interview With “All That” Star Angelique Bates! (@AngeliqueBates)
We recently had the chance to chat with “All That” star Angelique Bates about getting her start in the entertainment industry, working on “All That”, and more!
1. How did you get your start in the entertainment industry?
A: My mother had me doing print work at 9 months old. I booked a Borax ad w/ Tony Randall.
2. How did you land your role on “All That”?
A: I was in a talent competition Ivar Theatre use to put on annually. Richard Delancy discovered me. He is responsible for “Unsolved Mysteries” and several other projects and careers. He was best friends with my agent John Hugh who passed away. Delancy recommended me to Hugh who signed me immediately. Within the week I was sent out on the nationwide audition for “All That”.
3. What character do you play?
A: “All That” was a children’s version of “Saturday Night Live” and “In Living Color”. Some of the popular characters I played were Mandy from “Randy & Mandy”, Beth from “Good Burger”, Penny Lane from “Super Dude” and Urkel.
4. What is your favorite part about working on the show?
A: I enjoyed all of the musical acts such as TLC, Da Brat, Aaliyah, Monica, Usher, Craig Mack, Run Dmc, Immature, Blackstreet, etc
5. What is it like getting to be a part of the Nickelodeon family?
A: It was a different experience none the less. A lot of experiences I will never forget.
6. What were your favorite Nickelodeon shows growing up?
Double Dare, Are You Afraid Of The Dark, Rugrats, Nick Arcade
7. What is a behind-the-scenes secret you can share with us?
A: Well we used to have a kitchen that the infamous Boogers and Slime was made out of. Well the boogers were really pudding & pineapples and the slime was apple sauce. 🙂
8. Are you working on anything else at the moment?
A: I make an appearance in Tami Roman’s “Bonnet Chronicles” written by her and Ernest Dukes now on Jay-Z’s Tidal. Can check out new episodes every Thursday. Also I just released my mixtape single “Complicated” last month. And I will be releasing the second single within the next week. My music can be found on Soundcloud and YouTube.
