The latest news and interviews about Hollywood's rising stars

We recently had the chance to chat with TLC’s “Evil Things” star Anesu Mutara about getting started in the entertainment industry, filming episodes of “Evil Things,” working on commercials, and more!

  1. How did you get started in the entertainment industry?

I’ve always been a dancer and had a passion for acting and music from a very young age but while growing up in England, I was heavily into football (soccer) where I played at professional academies and trialled for a lot too, Birmingham City FC Academy, Cardiff City FC Academy, Burton Albion Academy just to name a few! But with injuries and certain managers not allowing me to sign for other clubs I made a move to take on acting, dance and music in the city of Los Angeles, CA.

  1. What was your first big project?

My first big project was my national commercial for Apple, titled

“iPhone 7+ Plus – Barbers” which was nomination for a Webby Award and won 3 pencils in London including “ Best in Show” at the ADC Awards in New York City.

  1. How did you land your role on “Evil Things?”

I remember receiving the sides for the audition and immediately wasting no time, done my homework on the script and made sure I knew exactly what my character needed, his goal and what I as him had to do in that scene in order to achieve it.

  1. What was the audition process like?

It was great! I was super excited! super confident as I felt I had prepared well in time. An amazing response from the CSA casting director which also allowed me to be put on hold for season 2 of  another British TV show just from the same audition! I wasn’t expecting it at all! Very grateful!

  1. What was your reaction when you found out you booked the part?

I was over the moon! I don’t think there are any words to describe it except from I prayed and thanked God for such a blessing!

  1. What is the show about?

The show is shot in American horror story style, set on paranormal activities that take place in these characters lives.

  1. What has been your favorite episode to film so far?

Ep 7 – The Interview was so fun to shoot! My character Miles who has been kicked out of his home for his behavior at school, he then finds himself living in an abandoned church where some scary things take place involving a priest that was part of that church. haunted!

  1. You’ve also worked on some commercials, can you tell us about your experience doing that?

Every commercial I have done has been a different but an amazing experience! From flying in and out of the state to shoot, then to filming at some of the biggest network studios in the world!

My favorite part is waking up at 4am, being on set at 6am ready for breakfast, hair and make up, then right to filming by 7am! I just love it! something I pray to carry on doing for the rest of my life.

  1. What is the difference between working on a commercial and a larger project?

They’re both very different to me, but its difficult for me to judge because some commercials take 2 days to film, some take 9 days including flights etc. And on a TV show you have to work fast also, but what I can say is I love doing both!

  1. Which do you prefer?

Commercials are so fun to shoot especially when you’re the star of the project, TV shows are also fun to shoot ESPECIALLY when you’re the star of that too! I love the process of both, the feeling of being on set is something I want forever, so I’d love to keep on doing commercials but mainly focusing on TV shows and movies.

  1. Are you currently working on any other projects?

I’m currently working on a few projects that I can’t mention yet due to NDA’s signed, but I have just finished filming a pilot which had an amazing team of writers! its comedy! and lets just say my character is in Juvie for stealing cars!
