The latest news and interviews about Hollywood's rising stars

We recently had the chance to chat with Shako about getting his start in the industry, working on his song “99 Problems,” upcoming projects, and more!

  1. When did you realize you wanted to become a musician?

I knew at a young actually but actually started playing live guitar while singing when I was 14. I started writing shortly after that. When I wrote “99 Problems”, I knew I wanted to be an artist.

  1. Who are your musical inspirations?

I am extremely inspired by singer-songwriters like  Stevie Wonder and John Mayer who work so closely to their craft. I also love Kehlani, Bruno Mars, and Anderson Pak.

  1. How would you describe your sound?

As my sound keeps developing I would have to say it is a fusion of jazz, pop, and rnb!

  1. What was the writing and recording process like for your new single “99 Problems?”

I wrote “99 Problems” when I was sixteen and have tried recording it with multiple producers. They did not get my vision for the song but, I was determined to keep trying until it clicked. Once I found Malcolm Fong who is a NYC producer I currently work with, I felt that I finally found someone that got me as an artist. After a few months of working on covers and other originals we had “99 Problems” in the bag.

  1. What is the song about?

It’s about a person who is longing for a love that’s real. The verses are like a big exclamation mark and the chorus is a bit of a question mark.  The lyrics “Could this be love or an extra mistake” is an unsure standpoint asking if these emotions are real or not.

  1. What do you think is important when creating a song?

I think the most important thing to hear in the song is contrast and to keep adding new colors and layers as the song progresses. Keeping the listener hooked with the story and introducing new instruments is what I strive for while creating.

  1. What has the fan reaction been like to the song so far?

It’s been nothing but positive vibes for this song. I have been getting videos of people dancing to the song and singing all the lyrics. That part is a bit of a trip for me.

  1. Where can fans buy or stream the song?

Everywhere! Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, and SoundCloud. I have provided the spotty link below if you want to save or add it to your playlist!

  1. Are you currently working on any other projects that you’d like to share with us?

Yes I am! I am working on an EP. My main goal is to make sure that each song I release is better than the last.

  1. What are your social media accounts?

You can find me everywhere @shako4music
