We recently had the chance to chat with Julianne Collins about getting her start in the entertainment industry, starring in a Super Bowl commercial, upcoming projects, and more!

1. How did you get your start in the entertainment industry?

Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to make movies. When I was still a little kid, about 7 or 8, my parents would bring me to Los Angeles for the summers. There was no work out in Arizona, so coming out to LA was the only way. Later we found out that the summers were the worst time to be out in LA, and during the school year was better. When I was a few years older, I convinced my parents to let me start homeschooling, and spend a year in LA.

2. What was your first big project?

I booked a Super Bowl commercial when I was 13, and that was huge for me. Millions would see it, and it gave me the confidence that I really had a shot.

3. What has been your favorite film to work on so far?

It’s impossible for me to pick a favorite. Every set has been different, and I’ve played so many different characters. One of my favorite sets has to be a film I just shot, the cast and crew were all such cool people, and the content was so cool! I always find myself loving my most recent set, but this one was fantastic.

4. What is a typical day like on most sets?

Every set is different, but most of the time is is a weird mix between hectic and slow. For actors, it’s a lot of ‘hurry up and wait’. When shooting, during scenes we have to ignore the crew members surrounding us. Sometimes there are twelve or more crew members around you during an emotional scene, and separating that can be tricky.

5. Do you prefer working on films or in commercials?

They are different, and I love both sets. They’re different kinds of work, and adapting and changing to fit that is fun for me. Choosing between film and commercials is like choosing between apples and oranges.

6. What would you say is the biggest difference between the two?

Commercials are much quicker to shoot, and that cuts out a lot of time to play around. Film is much more of a creative process, with characters and an arc. It really brings out the artists in everyone working on it, with much more time. Film and TV last longer, and they can create lasting friendships.

7. What is your dream role

I’d love to star in my own action film. I always go back and forth between being the villain and the hero, but in either case I’m drawn to characters with gray morals.

8.Who are your acting inspirations?

Again, it is hard to choose who to mention! I draw inspiration from every movie and show I watch, less so than the actors themselves, but I defiantly am inspired by Viola Davis. She kills every performance she does, and has played so many characters.

9. Are you currently working on any projects you’d like to share with us?

I just wrapped a project called DOORS, and I am part of the first installment. I can’t really say much more about it, except that if you like sci-fi you’ll like this!
