Shallow Pools Talks New Single “It’s A You Thing” And More In Exclusive Interview! (@ShallowPoolsMA)
We recently had the amazing opportunity to chat with Shallow Pools about their new single “It’s A You Thing”, working in the music industry, upcoming projects, and more!
- How did you form as a band?
We all went to the same high school! Jess and Glynnis had been friends for a while, and we met Ali in 2012. We found out that we all loved music, and started making acoustic covers together. By 2016, we figured it was time to start writing our own music under a different name. And now, we’re shallow pools!
- What was the inspiration for “It’s A You Thing?”
The song is about being repeatedly let down by someone you care about. It originally started out as a song about a strained friendship, but it can be applied to any type of relationship.
- How is it different from other songs you’ve released in the past?
It has a completely different vibe from the music we put out in the past. It’s much more rhythmic and we got to incorporate keys and synth in this song, which was new for us. Lyrically, each of us relates to this song, so it’s not coming from one person’s perspective.
- How will it be different from “Sinking?”
“It’s A You Thing.” has more of a chill vibe and the lyrics explore the challenges of relationships with other people. “Sinking” is definitely more of a pop rock song. The music is upbeat and the lyrics are about an internal struggle with anxiety.
- When and where can fans purchase and/or stream the music?
All of our music will be available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Bandcamp, and other streaming services.
Our music video for “It’s A You Thing.” will be available on YouTube on 7/13/18.
- What do you think makes your band stand out from others?
I think the fact that we had a strong foundation of friendship before ever trying to write songs together. There’s a baseline of trust and respect for each others’ opinions because of that, and we have the ability to argue about things without it blowing up because we care value each other. We all think each person is the most talented person we know and we are really proud of the others when they do something cool in a song or in a performance and I hope people can feel that from us!
- What is your favorite part about the music industry?
Meeting other musicians is definitely one of the coolest parts of being in a band. Everyone is really supportive of each other. We’ve met some of our best friends through music!
- What are the keys to making a good song?
As long as you like it and are happy with the music you’re making, then that’s all that matters!
- Are you currently working on any other projects at the moment you’d like to share with us?
Right now, we’re working on 2 new songs to finish up a 5 song EP that we plan on releasing this fall!! We have a few shows coming up this summer, and we’re booking shows for the fall too. We’ll be launching a new website in the near future, which will have all of our upcoming show dates listed!
