‘Thunder Club’ Talks Upcoming EP “Summer Vice” In Exclusive Interview! (@ThunderClub23)

We recently had the chance to chat with ‘Thunder Club’ about forming as a band, their upcoming EP, and more!
- How did you form as a band?
We all happened to be on a quest to throw a ring down into this volcano thing and after destroying the ring, we ended up writing music together. We all bonded over having large, hairy feet. All jokes aside, Conor, Garrett and Dennis met in high school, and Pete and John are brothers. Everyone knew each other through mutual friends, but it wasn’t until Pete invited John to a jam session that the group was solidified. We went into Mobtown Studios in Baltimore to record our first EP, and forgot to give the band a name. After recording finished, we thought that it’d probably be pretty important to have a name so we threw some ideas around at a pool and Conor eventually came up with Thunder Club, and it’s stuck ever since.
- What is each members’ role?
We’ve got Garrett Cusack on lead vocals and keys, Conor Johnston on bass and vocals, Dennis Jason Chen on guitars and vocals, Pete Burkhardt on guitars, and John Burkhardt on drums and percussion.
- What inspired your most recent single “Go Ahead?”
The energy of summer. Those short bursts of moments that we hold onto, that are near and dear to our hearts. Everyone lives for that little bit of summer before hiding back into the hibernation of fall and winter. It’s about the relationships that only last for a few months while this special time of year is here.
- What has the fan reaction been like to the song so far?
It’s a dancy, upbeat tune that people love to shake their booties to. It’s been amazing having it on rotation on 89.7 WTMD here in Baltimore. So, when we play it live people recognize it and were singing ALL of the words to it at our EP release show at Metro Gallery. It was heartwarming and sent chills down our spines at the same time (that is, in a good way!).
- What inspired the song?
Summer time madness. We love to party and have a good time, and that shows in the music we write, play live, and record. It was a guitar riff and a percussive pattern that really set the tone when we first started writing it!
- How does it differ from your previous singles and/or other music?
There’s much more maturity in our sound and how we play our music. We really gelled with this track and put a lot of time into it. Honestly, it was one of those serendipitous moments in time where all the puzzle pieces matched up perfectly and created this song.
- What can fans expect from your EP “Summer Vice”?
A little bit of everything really. ‘Go Ahead’ is a really fun and creative song that we’re proud to have people bounce and sing along too. ‘Pocketbook Lover’ is really a fleeting love song if that makes any sense. It’s about those relationships that you might have where one person is left in someone’s back pocket when another might feel stronger about the other. And finally, ‘Hot Words’ is just a badass, in-your-face rock song that has heavy influence from The Killers…We love The Killers!
- Will the music sound similar to “Go Ahead?”
We think that they all revolve around a similar theme in sound, but it’s not the same in any sense. Each song is different in its own unique way. Take a listen, and you’ll see 😉
- When and where can fans purchase or stream your music?
We’re on all streaming platforms. Nothing physical cuz we live in the future! Just kidding, we’re on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, iTunes, Pandora, BandCamp, and whatever else it is the kids listen to these days.
- Are you working on any other projects your fans should know about?
We definitely have some fun stuff up our sleeves. Be on the lookout for a video for ‘Go Ahead!!’
