Jerrica Alyssa Talks “Ride” In Exclusive Interview! (@JerricaAlyssa)
- How did you get started in the music industry?
My first work in the entertainment industry was dancing which allowed me to tour internationally when I was a teenager. On those tours I started singing and performing.
- Who are your musical influences?
Some of my biggest musical influences include my musical idol Alicia Keys, Bruno Mars, Aretha Franklin & Prince. In my eyes they are fierce, passionate and dedicated. I’ve grown up listening to their powerful music and watched them take on the world non-apologetically and with purpose. As an artist, I am in awe of their achievements in songwriting, playing instruments, singing, and performing. Their work has inspired me from a young age to work my ass off every day, to push myself to better my craft. They give me confidence to be the best version of myself.
- If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be and why?
I’m Filipina and I identify with Bruno Mars as a person. Plus I absolutely love his music. It would be a thrill to work with him!
- How would you describe your sound?
I create music that I feel inspired about. Subjects on Empowerment, Freedom of expression, Fearlessness and also at times accepting my vulnerability. And in terms of sound and feel, as a dancer & keyboardist I’ve always been drawn to music with great grooves and rhythm and I share that part of me through my writing and production.
- What inspired your new single “Ride”?
Ride is a melodic, funky track that is wrapped in personal attraction and anticipation. A lot of the inspiration came from Prince guitar riffs that go all the way back to the Chitlin’ Circuit.
- What is the song about?
It’s about the want to explore something new, whether that be a person or the excitement of embarking on an exciting journey.
- How is it different from your other music?
This song was a new adventure for me! My production partner Joseph Magee and I took a lot more risks with this track. We had an amazing session bassist come in and we asked him to get crazy at the chorus. So he laid down a funky driving bassline that shaped the entire song. I stretched way out writing funky synth parts and took emotional risks with the vocal performance.
- Do you have an EP for full-length album in the works?
I do have an EP in the works that I’ll be releasing later this year!
- When and where can fans purchase or stream the single?
It’s available now on multiple streaming sites! If you follow this link you can choose your preferred streaming service to listen. https://song.link/us/i/1450707846
