Interview With Nimi Adokiye! (@ActressNimi)

1.How did you get started in the entertainment industry?
I started when I was in the high school with my first play Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I played the role of Grandma Georgina. We had staged makeup to make me look older. It was so much fun! I was bit by the acting bug and my life has never been the same.
2.What was the first big project you worked on?
My first major booking was working on a National Commercial with Queen Latifah. She is so amazing, really a funny and a all around cool chick. I was so excited to be working with her and she made the set very comfortable.
3.What do you think sets you apart from other actresses?
That’s a very good question. I have a very high sense of self and understanding of my value and abilities. I am very confident that I can provide quality work to whatever role I am playing. I don’t want you to think I am cocky just confident. Also I have a strong faith which keeps me humble and grounded. I am uber dedicated to my craft and developing my talent to it maximum. I have the ability to give it my best shot and if people accept it, good. If not that’s their loss and I keep moving forward into my purpose and destiny.
4.Who are your inspirations?
Viola Davis is my idol. She is a powerhouse. I love the depth she brings to every character. I love Scarlet Johansson, she is elegant, witty, brilliant and can kick butt. I am really inspired by most of my peers. What I mean is this incredible journey of being an artist. There is no game plan, no blueprints to success and yet we go and create, we put our everything into our presentation and told no over and over again… then we get that yes and it vindicates all the dedication.
5.What kinds of roles do you typically enjoy working on?
It’s funny my typical roles change from season to season. I am thankful I am not type casted into one specific character type so I get to keep exploring. Lately the roles I am doing a lot of is as a nurse.
6.Do you have any dream roles?
My dream role is to play a character in a project that will move people. Something that is important that spans generations. If I was to play a real life person I would love the role of Florence Griffith Joyner, when I was in High School I ran track and field and she was such a inspiring woman. It also be a lot of fun to play a super hero or villain in Marvel or DC franchise, and forever be in the history of comic book movie characters.
7.Is there any genre you’d really want to try?
I would love to play in a period film. I don’t know if there are any roles for me in the victorian age but I absolutely love the outfits of that time and the proper and posh culture. Also I would love to be in a sci fi futuristic film.
8.Do you have any other upcoming projects?
I just wrapped a fun music video for the band Foster of the People. The shoot was amazing and we all had a lot of fun. Of course there are always projects in talks and on the horizon but you will have to keep up with me to see what is next.
